Reflecting on Legacy, Joy, and Audacity

“Well behaved-women seldom make history” -Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Inspired by the fruits of our own misbehaving, we’ve been reflecting on the ways Black women are Living their Legacy, embodying Joyful LIberation and moving with Ancestral Audacity. Now we’re exploring the voices, stories, struggles & triumphs of Black Women through the lens of iconic moments in American history and the lived experiences of local Nashvillians.

The Audacity to be Visible

Our storytelling journey will unfold over the rest of the year, and the first stop is a photo story that amplifies the brilliance and complexities of women and girls from our community by presenting them within and alongside culturally recognizable images and icons.

Friday, April 12, 2024, come to the Community Foundation to hear from Kawema, LaTanya Channel, Melissa Gordon, and Annie Paraison. The Audacity to be Visible will be a community conversation and a sneak peek of how we’re bringing Legacy Joy and Audacity to life as we prepare for an early summer release. There’s plenty of parking and refreshments will be served. RSVP here.

The Legacy Joy Audacity project seeks to honor and pay tribute to the often underrepresented and unsung heroines of history, highlighting their audacious pursuits, their unwavering commitment to social change, and their boundless joy amidst adversity. You can make a donation to ensure we can compensate the artists who share their talents and the women who share their stories.
